Winter Storm warnings for today; Some more snow on Saturday; Warming trend next week!


Light snow began around 1am this morning in the Clifton area and as of 6am we received about an inch and half accumulation, temperatures are in the low 20s.

Very heavy snow bands will be moving into the area shortly with 2 inch and hour rate can be expected most of the rest of this morning.  The precipitation will mix with sleet and freezing rain this afternoon but change make to snow tonight which may fall heavy again before ending around 7am on Friday.  Total accumulations around 10-14 inches in the Clifton area with higher amounts inland and lower amounts along the coast.

Friday will be dry and not all that cold but another weaker storm will be approaching the area at night with possibly more accumulating snow late Friday night into Saturday morning.

Cold and dry weather for Sunday.

After a cold Monday morning temperatures will moderate in the afternoon.

Another disturbance may give us some light rain or snow on Tuesday but temperatures will moderate into the 40s.

Even milder weather towards the end of next week with 50 degree readings likely.

 

The forecast: Today – Snow heavy at times this morning, mixing with sleet and freezing rain this afternoon, high in the low 30s.

Tonight – Snow, sleet and freezing rain changing back to all snow after midnight, snow ending by 7am.  low around 30.  Total accumulations 10-14 inches.

Friday – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 30s.  Chance of snow at night.

Saturday – Chance of snow in the morning then mostly cloudy, high in the mid-upper 30s.

Sunday – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 20s.

Monday – Mostly sunny, high in the low 30s, chance of rain or snow at night.

Tuesday – Chance of rain, mostly cloudy, high in the low 40s.

Wednesday – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

 

Marine Forecast: Gale warnings in effect till Friday morning for northeast winds gusting to 45 knots, seas 8-12 feet.

Outlook – Advisories likely will be needed through Saturday before dropping below advisory levels on Saturday..

Significant Nor’easter to pound us on Thursday; Winter storm warnings in effect!!


Another bitterly cold morning with temperatures mostly in the single digits with many below zero readings in Sussex County, Sussex Airport is down to -9 degrees.  Skies are clear and winds are light.

Today will be the calm before the storm, good time to pick up the milk and bread, skies will start off sunny with increasing cloudiness as the day goes on.. Temperatures will remain quite cold with highs in the upper 20s.

Snow should start around 3am Thursday morning and end around 3am Friday morning.  Snow will fall heavy at time during the day and at night, likely mixing with sleet in the afternoon.. Total accumulations 10-14 inches.

Friday we dry out and it will be not as cold with readings near 40.   A weak disturbance may give us a chance of light snow showers at night.

It will be a dry and cold weekend.

Another disturbance may give us some rain, snow and sleet mix Monday night into Tuesday.

Much warmer toward the end of next week!

Gale warnings in effect from 10pm tonight till 5am on Friday morning.

Outlook – Conditions lower to below advisory levels Friday night but advisories again likely on the weekend!

Bitterly cold Tuesday and Wednesday; Major East Coast snowstorm for Thursday!


With clear skies and light winds there is a wide range of temperatures early this morning with readings around 10 degrees in the Clifton area to below zero in the normally colder areas, Walpack, NJ in Sussex County is reporting a chilly -12 degrees.

Despite plenty of sunshine today temperatures will only top out in the upper 20s, another bitterly cold night tonight with readings falling again to the single digits and below zero in some of those inland areas.

Cold and dry again on Wednesday.

A major snowstorm will affect the area starting before daybreak on Thursday and last through Thursday evening, accumulations should range from about 8-12 inches, less along the coast where rain may mix in and higher snow amounts inland.

Friday will be not as cold as we may hit 40 degrees to help melt some of the snowpack. There may be some rain or snow showers also during the day.

Colder and mostly dry weather for the weekend.

Finally a warming trend that should begin next Tuesday and continue through most of next week.

Cold weather to continue this week; Another snowstorm for Thursday!


After picking up a little over an inch of snow last night skies have become partly cloudy and temperatures are mainly in the upper teens.

Today we will have plenty of sunshine but it will remain quite cold

Dry and cold weather will continue Tuesday and Wednesday.

Get ready for another moderate to heavy snowstorm beginning very late Wednesday night and persist through Thursday afternoon with possible accumulations up to a foot, coastal areas may mix or change to rain keeping amounts down in those areas.

A weaker disturbance will give us a chance of light rain or snow on Friday.

At the present time the weekend appears to be dry with continued below normal temperatures.

There are signs of a pattern change that would bring milder air finally into our area but we have to wait to the middle or later part of next week for that to occur..

Saturday – Partly sunny, high in the mid 30s.

Sunday – Mostly cloudy, high in the low to mid 30s.

 

Marine Forecast: Small craft advisory in effect through this afternoon for northwest wind gusting to 30 knots, seas 3-4 feet.

Outlook – Gale warnings possible Wednesday night into Thursday with small craft advisories extending into Friday.

Light snow late this afternoon into this evening!


With mostly cloudy skies temperatures in the Clifton area are in the teens with single digits over the colder areas of Northwest New Jersey.

Today skies will become cloudy and light snow will develop around 3pm and end around midnight, a light accumulation of 1-2 inches can be expected.

Cold and dry Monday through Wednesday with the coldest readings should be on Wednesday morning when single digits are expected in our area with some below zero reading further inland.

A coastal low will develop Wednesday night and move up the coast on Thursday. Still some doubt on the track of this storm and along with it the type of precipitation that we may experience, so for the time being will just say a chance of rain or snow.

Seasonably cool and dry weather for Friday into Saturday.

Tonight – Light snow ending around midnight, accumulation 1-2 inches, low around 20.

Monday – Becoming mostly sunny, high near 30.

Tuesday – Sunny, high in the upper 20s.

Wednesday – Mostly sunny, high in the low 30s.

Thursday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain or snow, high in the upper 30s.

Friday – Mostly cloudy, high near 40.

Saturday – Mostly cloudy, high in the mid 30s.

Small craft advisory will be in effect from late tonight through Monday afternoon.
