It is another very cold morning with the temperature of 7 degrees in Clifton. With clear skies and nearly calm winds have caused many areas to fall well  below zero across Northwest New Jersey and even the pinelands of Central and Southern New Jersey, Toms River reported -9 degrees at 5 a.m.  The 8 degree reading in Clifton is the fourth daily record low this week.

As the Arctic high pressure moves offshore a storm system in the Ohio Valley will approach the area, we will have increasing cloudiness this morning with snow developing mainly after 4pm with the snow continuing after midnight.  After midnight freezing rain will mix with the snow and then change to all rain before ending Sunday morning, expected accumulations of ice and snow to be around 4-6 inches.

On Sunday afternoon we will have sunshine returning and temperatures rising into the low 40s, but don’t get used to that mild reading since we will have a couple of more Arctic blasts next week.

Arctic air will be over us Monday and Tuesday with a moderation in temperatures on Wednesday with a chance of snow followed by another Arctic surge on Thursday and Friday, although the cold may not be as extreme as this past week average temperatures will be well below normal for the end of February.

Record breaking cold this morning! Snow, freezing rain and rain Saturday night into Sunday morning!

The temperature in Clifton has fallen to -1 degree which is a record for the date and also the latest below zero reading of the season since I started records in 1973.   Temperatures range as low as -10 at High Point.  Skies are clear and winds 10-15 mph have dropped wind chills to -20 degree in many area.

Today despite plenty of sunshine high temperature will struggle to reach the teens, winds will slowly diminish.

Not as frigid in most areas tonight as the Arctic high pressure moves offshore and a more southerly wind flow develops.

A low pressure system moving to the north of us Saturday night and Sunday with snow developing in the afternoon, mixing with freezing rain at night and should change to all rain on Sunday morning, latest indications are that the storm will move more quickly through the area so most precipitation will end by the afternoon.  Sunday the highs may reach the low 40s   Total accumulation of snow should average 2-4 inches.

Another Arctic cold front will cross the area Sunday afternoon and evening followed by much below normal temperatures again Monday and Tuesday.

Not as cold on Wednesday but there is a chance of snow.

Much below normal chill again on Thursday and Friday.

Frigid Arctic air in our area till Saturday morning followed by snow, freezing rain and rain Saturday night into Sunday!

Under mostly clear skies temperatures have fallen to 12 degrees in Clifton early this morning to some single digits inland, winds are out of the west gusting to 25 mph dropping wind chills below zero.

Despite plenty of sunshine today temperatures will struggle to reach the 20 degree mark and with winds gusting to 30 mph will cause wind chills to remain below zero.

Tonight will be bitterly cold and windy with lows by Friday morning falling to near zero and with winds still gusting to 30 mph will push wind chills down to -20 degrees, a wind chill advisory is in effect for tonight in our area.

Friday we will continue to have plenty of sun but highs again will only reach 20 degrees but winds will diminish.  Friday night will again be very cold with lows around zero but winds will be much lighter.

A storm system will develop over the Ohio Valley on Saturday and move to our north along the St. Lawrence Valley on Sunday, this system will cause snow to develop late Saturday afternoon and mix with freezing rain at night.

On Sunday the mixed precipitation will change to all rain in the afternoon as temperatures rise into the low 40s.  The precipitation will change back to snow before ending Sunday night, total accumulations of snow and ice will be around 1-3 inches.

Quite cold again on Monday and Tuesday and another low pressure along the coast may give us more snow Tuesday night into Wednesday.  More cold air will follow this storm for late next week as it appears that February 2015 will end up as one of the coldest Februarys on record.
