Mostly sunny and mild today after morning fog! More heavy rain likely on Thursday!


WEDNESDAY  APRIL 5, 2017  6:00 A.M.

There is considerable fog early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures are mild ranging from the mid to upper 40s, winds are mainly calm.

Yesterday we received 1.27 inches of rain in Clifton, temperatures that were forecasted to be in the upper 60s only reached to around 50 in our area while the southern part of the state highs were well up into the 70s.

After early morning fog we will dry out as a front moves east of the area and high pressure briefly builds into the area, with sunshine temperatures should rise into the pleasant 60s.

An impressive low pressure will intensify as it moves into our area on Thursday, rain should begin before daybreak and become heavy at times especially in the late morning into the afternoon with some thunderstorms possible, a flood watch is in effect, rainfall amounts should average  1 1/2 to 2 inches with some higher amounts possible.

Rain will taper off to showers on Friday and it will be cool, in fact some areas well inland may have a mix of snow.

A nice weekend is likely with a warming trend.

Quite warm early next week with dry conditions as high pressure moves off the coast and a southwest flow develops.

OUTLOOK – A gale watch is posted for Thursday; small craft conditions likely Thursday night through the day on Saturday; no advisories expected Saturday night through Sunday.

Lingering showers and quite mild today! Quite mild and dry on Wednesday! More heavy rain likely on Thursday!


TUESDAY  APRIL 4, 2017  5:55 A.M.

Skies are cloudy over the area and there are some showers falling, it is quite mild with temperatures ranging from around 50 in the Clifton area to the low 40s further inland, winds are light.

The area that gave us the heavy rain overnight has moved east of the Hudson River after giving us a little over an inch of rainfall.  We should have a mainly cloudy day today with occasional showers, it will be mild with highs in the 60s and if we get any sunshine late in the day 70 degrees is within reach.

High pressure will briefly build into the area on Wednesday giving us a dry and quite mild day.

Another in the series of storms will affect the area on Thursday giving us more heavy rain along with windy conditions another 1-2 inches of rainfall is likely that may cause more flooding.

Showers and cool on Friday as an upper level low moves through the area.

Nice weather is anticipated for the weekend into early next week with a warming trend.

More heavy rain likely late tonight into Tuesday and again on Thursday!


MONDAY  APRIL 3,  2017  5:50 A.M.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Monday morning and temperatures range from the low 40s in the Clifton area to the low 30s in some inland valleys, winds are light.

Today high pressure will be moving off the coast, we will have sunshine this morning with increasing clouds by this afternoon, temperatures will be mild.

Rain from a low pressure system approaching the area will begin late tonight and become heavy at times tomorrow morning with even a few rumbles of thunder possible, rain will taper off to showers by Tuesday afternoon, 1-2 inches of rain is expected and a flood watch has been posted.

High pressure will briefly build into the area on Wednesday giving us a dry and mild day.

Another area of low pressure is expected to give us more widespread rain on Thursday before tapering off to showers on Friday, an additional 1-2 inches of rain is possible.

The upcoming weekend at this point is expected to be dry with near seasonable temperatures.

Very pleasant spring weather today! More rain Monday night into Tuesday and again on Thursday!


SUNDAY  APRIL 2, 2017  5:56 A.M.

Our area has mostly fair conditions early on this Sunday morning and temperatures are seasonably mild ranging from near 40 in the Clifton area to the mid 30s further inland, winds are from the northwest averaging 5-10 mph.

Today high pressure will give us plenty of sunshine and with milder temperatures, it will be a nice spring day.

High pressure will move off the coast on Monday giving us increasing cloudiness and as a low pressure system approaches the area from the west rain will develop Monday night and continue into Tuesday, more than an inch of rain is likely but unlike the chilly rain we had on Friday this storm will be associated with milder temperatures.

Wednesday will again be a very nice day and quite mild.

A good chance of another rainstorm for Thursday into Friday.

At this point next weekend looks dry with seasonable temperatures.

MARCH 2017 CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY

The month averaged around 3 degrees below normal, it was the first time since 1984 that March was colder than February;  precipitation was slightly above normal with 4.95 falling;  snowfall was above normal with 13.5 inches accumulating;  The highest temperature was 69 degrees set on the 1st, the coldest was a chilly 11 degrees on the 5th.

SATURDAY  APRIL 1, 2017  5:58 A.M.

Skies are cloudy early on this Saturday morning and there is some drizzle or light rain falling, temperatures are chilly ranging from the low to mid 30s, winds are from the north averaging around 10 mph. 1.54 inches of rain fell yesterday in Clifton.

Low pressure off the New Jersey coast will move further out to sea today, light rain and drizzle should end by noontime but clouds should remain most of the day with possibly some clearing by sunset; temperatures will be chilly not rising out of the 40s.

Much better weather on Sunday as high pressure builds into the area, we should see plenty of sunshine and milder temperatures.

It will be dry during the day on Monday but another low pressure area will likely give us some more widespread rain falling from Monday night through Tuesday.

Dry and quite mild on Wednesday but still another low pressure area will give us a chance of more rain at the end of next week. Temperatures most of next week will be near to slightly above normal.
