Pleasant weather today after Ida caused historic flooding last night! Continued nice weather through the holiday weekend with only a low chance of showers Sunday afternoon and evening!

Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Thursday morning and temperatures are the coolest since early August with readings at 5 a.m. ranging from 59 in Clifton down to 53 at High Point. Winds are gusty out of the north.

Ida caused historic flooding last night as it moved through our area. Total rainfall in Clifton was 8.44″ with the rain ending shortly after 1 a.m. The worst part of the storm was around 9 p.m. when rain rates were as high as 5.10″ and there was considerable lightning and thunder and winds gusting to 35 mph.

Today will be a pleasant day as we dry out with sunshine returning along with cool temperatures and low humidity. However there will still be major river flooding the next few days.

Pleasant weather will continue through the holiday weekend with only a low chance of an afternoon and evening shower on Sunday. Temperatures will be slightly below normal Friday and Saturday and then above normal Sunday through the middle of next week. The only other chance of a shower will be with a cold front on Wednesday.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – SEP 2 – Mostly sunny, breezy and pleasant, high in the mid 70s, winds gusting to 30 mph.

TONIGHT – Mostly clear and breezy, low in the mid 50s.

FRIDAY -SEP 3 – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 70s.

SATURDAY – SEP 4 – Sunny, high in the upper 70s.

SUNDAY – SEP 5 – Partly sunny with a chance of afternoon and evening showers, high in the upper 70s.

LABOR DAY – SEP 6 – Partly sunny, high in the low 80s.

TUESDAY – SEP 7 – Mostly sunny, high in the low 80s.

WEDNESDAY – SEP 8 – Partly sunny with a chance of showers, high in the low 80s.

MARINE FORECAST: A gale warning is in effect till noon today for northerly winds gusting to 30 mph, seas 5-8 feet. Point Pleasant Beach’s ocean temperature is 75 degrees.

OUTLOOK – Advisories expected for high seas during the day on Friday; no advisories expected Friday night through Monday.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR AUGUST 2021:

The month was quite warm with an average temperature of 77.0 degrees which was 3.3 degrees above normal. Highest temperature was 98 degrees on the 13th, the lowest temperature was 59 degrees recorded on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It was also quite wet with 10.08″ of rain falling with 6.75″ totaling during Tropical Storm Henri from the 21-23rd.

SUMMER MONTHS SUMMARY:

Temperatures averaged 2.7 degrees above normal and rainfall was well above average with 21.08″ accumulating making this the 3rd wettest summer months since my records began in 1973.
