Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Independence Day and again it is quite warm and humid with temperatures ranging from 72 in Clifton down to 67 at High Point, Wantage and Hackettstown. Winds are mainly calm. The air quality is moderate with an index of 60.

A slow moving front will likely give us a mostly cloudy day today and it will continue to be humid, but high temperatures will be a few degrees lower than on Monday. Showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon and evening but the day should not be a total washout as the activity will be scattered.

Mainly dry and hot and continued moderately humid Wednesday and Thursday.

A slow moving frontal system will give us mainly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms Friday through the early part of next week. High temperatures will average near normal but overnight lows will be above normal. Also it will continue to be moderately humid.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening then becoming partly cloudy after midnight, muggy with lows in the upper 60s.

WEDNESDAY – JULY 5 – Mostly sunny, hot and humid, highs in the low 90s.

THURSDAY – JULY 6 – Partly sunny, hot and humid, highs in the low 90s.

FRIDAY – JULY 7 – Partly sunny with a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, highs in the upper 80s.

SATURDAY – JULY 8 – Partly sunny with a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, highs in the upper 80s.

SUNDAY – JULY 9 – Partly sunny with a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, highs in the upper 80s.

MONDAY – JULY 10 – Partly sunny with a chance of showers, highs in the low 80s.

MARINE FORECAST: TODAY – Variable winds 5 knots or less, seas 2 feet. Point Pleasant Beach’s ocean temperature is 73 degrees.

OUTLOOK: No advisories are expected Wednesday through Saturday.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR JUNE 2023.

June’s average temperature was 68.8 which was 1.2 degrees below normal and was the coolest June since 2009. The highest temperature was 94 degrees on the 2nd and the lowest was 47 on the 4th. Precipitation was a little below normal with 3.40″ with almost half of the rainfall was on the 26th and 27th. We had smoke at times during the month from the Canadian wildfires with the 7th being the worst day with terrible air quality and the sun being totally blocked out causing a weird yellow glow.
