Snow developing this afternoon, mixing with and changing to rain tonight then mainly light snow during the day on Sunday, total accumulations around 3-6″! Dry and seasonably mild on Monday! Powerful storm will likely give us heavy rain and strong winds Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday with serious flooding possible!

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Saturday morning and temperatures once again are seasonably cold with readings ranging from 25 in Clifton down to 18 at Walpack, Pequest and Sandyston. Winds are mainly calm. The air quality is moderate with an index of 66.

Today will start off dry but a coastal storm will be moving along the coast and snow should develop by 4 p.m. then mixing with or changing to rain at night before ending as light snow on Sunday. Winds will be a little brisk out of the northeast tonight. Total accumulation in Clifton will range between 3-6 inches with only an inch or so along coastal areas and up to a foot across the higher elevations of northwest New Jersey.

High pressure will briefly control our weather on Monday giving us dry conditions and seasonably mild temperatures.

A more significant storm is expected to move to the Great Lakes on Tuesday and the associated frontal system will give us heavy rain at night along with strong gusty winds. Rainfall amounts may total 2-4 inches which may again cause major river flooding. The rain will taper off on Wednesday and it will be a mild day with highs in the 50s.

Dry weather Thursday into the day on Friday but another storm system may give us more rain Friday night into Saturday.

SUNDAY – JAN 7 – Cloudy with light snow, highs in the upper 30s. Total accumulations 3-6 inches.

MONDAY – JAN 8 – Sunny, highs in the low 40s.

TUESDAY – JAN 9 – Rain mainly after 1 p.m. highs in the upper 40s, rain heavy at times at night with strong winds possible.

WEDNESDAY – JAN 10 – Showers mainly before 7 a.m. then remaining mostly cloudy and windy, highs in the mid 50s.

THURSDAY – JAN 11 – Mostly sunny, highs in the mid 40s.

FRIDAY – JAN 12 – Partly sunny, highs in the upper 40s, chance of rain at night.

MARINE FORECAST: TODAY – A small craft advisory is in effect for easterly winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 3-5 feet.

OUTLOOK: A gale warning has been posted effective between 6 p.m. this evening through 6 a.m. Sunday morning; no advisories expected for Monday; possible storm force winds Tuesday into Wednesday along with dangerous seas.
