Skies are partly to mostly cloudy early on this Tuesday morning and temperatures are chilly but still a little above normal with readings ranging from 27 in Clifton down to 18 at Sandyston. Winds are mainly calm. The air quality is moderate with an index of 67.

A powerful storm will affect our area this afternoon into Wednesday morning. Rain will begin by early this afternoon possible starting out as a wintery mix well inland. Rain becoming heavy at times at night tapering off to showers by sunrise on Wednesday. Rainfall amounts of 2-3 inches are expected with higher amounts possible which will cause major flooding again across the Passaic river basin. Also the winds will increase to near 50 mph form the south-southeast which will cause temperatures to rise into the 50s. A wind advisory is in effect for the Clifton area but coastal areas may see gusts to 70 mph and a high wind warning is in effect there.

The rain will taper off to showers Wednesday morning and we should see clearing and windy conditions Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday will be dry with seasonably mild temperatures.

Another storm system will give us rain again mainly from Friday afternoon into Saturday morning; at this time rainfall amount will be around 1-2 inches which will cause more flooding.

Sunday looks to be a colder and windy day along with mostly sunny skies.

Another low pressure area may cause some snow next Tuesday.

TODAY – JAN 9 – Becoming cloudy with rain developing by the early afternoon, becoming breezy, highs near 50.

TONIGHT – Rain heavy at times with strong winds. Rainfall amounts will average 2-3 inches with some higher amounts possible. Temperatures rising to the mid 50s.

WEDNESDAY – JAN 10 – Chance of showers in the morning then becoming partly sunny and by the afternoon, temperatures falling to the low 40s by sunset.

THURSDAY – JAN 11 – Sunny, highs in the upper 40s.

FRIDAY – JAN 12 – Increasing clouds with rain developing by early afternoon, highs in the mid 40s.

SATURDAY – JAN 13 – Chance of morning showers then becoming partly sunny in the afternoon, highs in the mid 50s.

SUNDAY – JAN 14 – Mostly sunny, breezy and colder, highs in the mid 30s.

MARINE FORECAST: A storm warning is in effect from 3 p.m. this afternoon through 6 a.m. Wednesday morning for southwest winds gusting to 60 knots, seas 14-19 feet.

OUTLOOK: Gales till likely during the day on Wednesday; small craft advisory expected Wednesday night; advisories still possible on Thursday; no advisories expected during the day on Friday but gale to storm warnings possible Friday night; gale warning still expected for Saturday.
