Sunny, windy and cool with a high risk of brush and wildfires, a Red Flag Warning is in effect! The coolest air of the season so far Wednesday and Thursday! Mainly dry with moderating temperatures Friday through early next week!

Skies are mostly clear early on this Tuesday morning and temperatures are still above normal with readings ranging from 48 in Clifton down to 41 at High Point. Winds are gusty out of the northwest. The air quality is good with an index of 19.

A cold front crossed the area early this morning and this front will be followed by a brisk northwest flow of cooler and much drier air. Wind gusts to 30-35 mph along with low humidity will likely once again cause some brush and or wildfires, and a Red Flag Warning is in effect. Possible smoke from the wildfire in West Milford may move into our area this afternoon.

The coolest air of the season is likely Wednesday and Thursday with early morning lows likely dropping below freezing and day time highs only near 50 despite plenty of sunshine. Winds will be lighter than today.

Our dry pattern should persist Friday through at least Monday with a slow moderation in temperatures.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – NOV 12 – Sunny, windy and cooler, highs in the mid 50s, wind gusts to 35 mph. A Red Flag Warning is in effect.

TONIGHT – Clear and cold, low near 30.

WEDNESDAY – NOV 13 – Sunny, highs in the low 50s.

THURSDAY – NOV 14 – Mostly sunny, highs near 50.

FRIDAY – NOV 15 – Mostly cloudy in the morning then becoming sunny, highs in the upper 50s.

SATURDAY – NOV 16 – Sunny, highs in the low 60s.

SUNDAY – NOV 17 – Mostly sunny, highs in the low 60s.

MONDAY – NOV 18 – Partly sunny, highs in the low 60s.

MARINE FORECAST: A small craft advisory is in effect until noon on Wednesday for northwest winds gusting to 35 knots, seas 3-6 feet.

OUTLOOK: No advisories expected Wednesday night through Friday night; advisories likely on Saturday.
