Heavy rain with strong winds and very mild temperatures today and this evening! Sunny and much colder on Thursday with continued gusty winds! Mostly sunny and cold with less wind on Friday and Saturday! Milder on Sunday with a chance of showers! Mild with a chance of rain Monday and Tuesday!

Rain is falling over much of the area early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures are mild with readings ranging from 47 in Clifton down to 43 at Wantage. Winds are mainly calm. The air quality is moderate with an index of 56.

A strong frontal system will be in our area today. Rain will become heavy at times especially this afternoon and evening with even a chance of a thunderstorm. Strong southerly flow will cause temperatures to rise into the 60s. The cold front with this system will cross our area late this afternoon bringing in a strong westerly flow of much colder air. The rain will end around midnight. Total rainfall will average around 2 inches with some higher amounts possible.

Arctic high pressure building into our area from the Midwest will give us a windy and cold day on Thursday. Highs in the 30s will feel much colder despite plenty of sunshine.

The high pressure will be over our area Friday and Saturday with cold conditions but with much less wind, skies will be mostly sunny both days.

Milder Sunday through early next week but there will be a chance of showers each day as a couple of disturbances move through our area.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – DEC 11 – Cloudy with rain heavy at times with a chance of a thunderstorm, windy with gusts to 40 mph, very mild, highs in the mid 60s.

TONIGHT – Rain in the evening then becoming mostly clear after midnight, colder, lows in the low 30s, gusts to 35 mph. Rainfall amounts averaging around 2 inches.

THURSDAY – DEC 12 – Sunny, cold and windy, highs in the upper 30s, wind gusts to 35 mph

FRIDAY – DEC 13 – Sunny, highs in the upper 30s.

SATURDAY – DEC 14 – Mostly sunny, highs in the upper 30s.

SUNDAY – DEC 15 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain, milder, highs in the mid 40s.

MONDAY – DEC 16 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain, highs near 50.

TUESDAY – DEC 17 – Partly sunny with a chance of showers, highs in the mid 50s.

MARINE FORECAST: A gale warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday morning for southwest winds gusting to 45 knots, seas 8-13 feet.

OUTLOOK: Advisories expected to continue during the day on Thursday! no advisories expected Thursday night through Saturday night; possible advisories for Sunday.
