Low pressure moving to our south will give us cloudy skies today with light snow mainly from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Accumulations of less than an inch is expected in the Clifton area but much more to our south with Cape May expecting several inches. Winds will be light.

The rest of the week Arctic high pressure will dominate giving us cold and windy weather the rest of the week with no precipitation expected.

Watching for a possible snowstorm this weekend as low pressure moves develops to our south. Latest computer models are still not in agreement with the GFS indicating snow for our area while the European model missing our area to the south.

Low pressure well offshore in combination with high pressure to our southwest will give us a brisk westerly flow of cold air. Skies will become mostly sunny after early morning clouds. The winds should be a little less than yesterday but still gust to 25 mph. The winds will become light tonight.

The well advertised low pressure will be moving to our south on Monday which will give us a chance of light snow mainly from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Accumulations in our area should be an inch or less with higher amounts to our south.

Arctic high pressure will then dominate our weather Tuesday through Friday giving us dry but cold and windy conditions through this period.

There is a chance of widespread snow over the weekend. Yesterday the GFS model had a big snowstorm while the European model had the storm too far offshore. Now the Euro shows a snowstorm while the GFS has it offshore.

Low pressure well offshore in combination with an Arctic high building from the northern plain states will give us a brisk northwest flow of cold air. Skies should be partly sunny in the morning then become mostly cloudy in the afternoon with a chance of some flurries. Highs in the mid 30s will feel colder as winds will gust to near 30 mph.

Sunday will be less windy with sunny skies as the high pressure builds closer to our area, highs will again be in the mid 30s.

Still uncertain on the path of our next storm that will be moving to our south on Monday, we will be on the northern fringe of the precipitation. At this time our area will likely have a dusting to one inch accumulation of snow with more to our south.

The rest of the week should be dry, cold and windy. Although temperatures will be below normal no record lows are expected.

There is some indications that we may have more snow next weekend.

The storm that gave us the high winds the last couple of days is moving further off the Canadian Maritime region. Skies will be mostly cloudy with near seasonable temperatures. Winds will be lighter today but we could still have gusts to 25 mph.

This weekend will be cold and breezy but dry, as Canadian high pressure builds into our area from the northern plain states.

A storm over eastern Canada will give us a strong westerly flow of air with some gusts to 47 mph. a wind advisory continues in effect. Skies will be partly sunny and there may be some flurries at times. High temperatures will be a little above normal but the winds will make it feel colder.

Friday will be less windy as the storm over Canada moves further away. Skies will be mostly sunny with seasonably cold temperatures.

High pressure will dominate our weather for the weekend with mostly sunny skies both days with below normal temperatures.

An area of low pressure will move to our south on Monday and we will be on the northern fringe of precipitation. At this time a dusting is possible but this forecast is still quite uncertain.

Mainly dry and cold weather through at least the middle of next week. Although temperatures will be near normal it should not be as frigid as we had the few days before Christmas.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY: RECORDS STARTED IN 1973.

DECEMBER 2024: This past month the average temperature was 35.4 degrees which was slightly below normal. The highest temperature was 61 degrees set on the 29th. The lowest temperature was 6 degrees that occurred on the 23rd. Precipitation was slightly above normal with 4.62″ Snowfall was slightly below normal with 4.8″ accumulating.

2024: The average temperature for the year was 56.4 degrees which is the warmest on record beating the record 56.3 degrees which was set in 2023. The highest temperature was 99 degrees on July 16th, the lowest was the 6 degrees set on December 23. Precipitation was above normal despite the driest fall on record with 52.91″. 23.4″ of snowfall accumulated during the year.
