Skies are partly cloudy on this Thursday that may feel more like a Monday. Temperatures range from 36 in Clifton down to 28 at High Point. Winds are gusty out of the west. The air quality is good with an index of 19.

A storm over eastern Canada will give us a strong westerly flow of air with some gusts to 47 mph. a wind advisory continues in effect. Skies will be partly sunny and there may be some flurries at times. High temperatures will be a little above normal but the winds will make it feel colder.

Friday will be less windy as the storm over Canada moves further away. Skies will be mostly sunny with seasonably cold temperatures.

High pressure will dominate our weather for the weekend with mostly sunny skies both days with below normal temperatures.

An area of low pressure will move to our south on Monday and we will be on the northern fringe of precipitation. At this time a dusting is possible but this forecast is still quite uncertain.

Mainly dry and cold weather through at least the middle of next week. Although temperatures will be near normal it should not be as frigid as we had the few days before Christmas.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY: RECORDS STARTED IN 1973.

DECEMBER 2024: This past month the average temperature was 35.4 degrees which was slightly below normal. The highest temperature was 61 degrees set on the 29th. The lowest temperature was 6 degrees that occurred on the 23rd. Precipitation was slightly above normal with 4.62″ Snowfall was slightly below normal with 4.8″ accumulating.

2024: The average temperature for the year was 56.4 degrees which is the warmest on record beating the record 56.3 degrees which was set in 2023. The highest temperature was 99 degrees on July 16th, the lowest was the 6 degrees set on December 23. Precipitation was above normal despite the driest fall on record with 52.91″. 23.4″ of snowfall accumulated during the year.

Skies are cloudy with some fog early on this New Year’s morning and it continues to be mild with temperatures ranging from 44 in Clifton down to 36 at High Point. Winds are mainly calm. The air quality is moderate with an index of 72.

The low pressure that gave us the heavy rain and a rare and rather strong thunderstorm last night will be moving to Maine and intensifying. Some partial clearing later this morning with westerly winds becoming very gusty by noon with gusts over 40 mph. A wind advisory is in effect. Temperatures will rise to the upper 40s this morning then drop to the low 40s by sunset.

Another windy day on Thursday with near seasonable temperatures. The wind advisory will continue with some gusts over 45 mph.

Mainly dry with seasonably cold temperatures Friday through the weekend as a polar high pressure moves into our area. Winds will be gusty but not as strong as today or on Thursday.

A low pressure is expected to develop over the southeast states on Monday. Most of the snow will remain to our south but there is a low chance of some light snow in our area.

Tuesday looks to be cold but dry as another high pressure builds into our area.

Weak high pressure will give us a sunny day today with mild temperatures and light winds. A low pressure system will give us rain tonight possibly heavy at times with a chance of a rare winter thunderstorm. Rainfall amounts will be between 3/4 to 1 inch.

New Year’s Day will be cloudy with still a chance of a shower, it will become breezy. High temperatures near 50 in the morning will drop to the low 40s by sunset. Skies will clear at night.

Thursday will be colder despite plenty of sunshine, some wind gusts past 30 mph possible.

High pressure will then dominate our weather Friday through the weekend with cold temperatures and it will remain dry.

There will be a possibility for snow on Monday but some computer models keep us dry with others indicate a mainly light snowfall.

A cold front will be moving though our area this morning followed by a brisk westerly flow of air. Temperatures will remain mild with highs in the upper 50s to around 60. Skies will be mostly cloudy this morning with clearing by noon.

A weak high pressure will give us dry and mild conditions on Tuesday with less wind. A low pressure will be moving into our area at night with rain possibly heavy at times. Not ideal weather for the ball drop at Times Square.

It now appears that New Year’s Day will dry and mild but it will become windy at night.

Dry and colder weather is expected Thursday through the weekend. Gusty winds Thursday and Friday with somewhat less wind on the weekend.

A warm front will pass through our area this morning preceded by fog and drizzle this morning and followed by a brisk southerly flow of much milder air with high temperatures well up into the 50s. The afternoon should be dry with only a small chance of some peeks of sunshine.

A cold front will cross the area around dawn on Monday preceded by very mild air along with showers that may be heavy at times. Clearing Monday afternoon but it will stay mild.

Increasing clouds on Tuesday with rain developing at night and showers lingering into New Year’s Day. Temperatures will continue to be above normal.

Dry and colder Thursday through the weekend!

Looking even further ahead unlike the last few Januarys it looks like we will remain cold and for the snow lovers there will be a couple of chances of significant snow.
