High pressure off the New England coast and a weakening cold front approaching from the west will give us mostly cloudy skies today with high temperatures similar to yesterday with readings mainly near 70 degrees.

High pressure will then dominate our weather Thursday through Sunday with plenty of sunshine each day and mild temperatures.

A cold front will give us a chance of showers on Monday.

Possibly the coolest temperatures so far this season with lows by Tuesday morning should fall to the 40s.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR SEPTEMBER 2024: RECORDS GO BACK TO 1973.

The average temperature for this past month was 67.4 degrees which was slightly above normal. The highest temperature was 85 recorded on the 14th, the lowest temperature was 51 recorded on the 8th. Precipitation totaled 1.18″ which was well below normal and was the 3rd driest September since 1973. .90″ of that fell this past weekend.

Today we will finally get rid of the drizzle and rain that we had during the weekend as high pressure will build closer to our area from the north. We will still have mostly cloudy skies but we should finally see some sunshine. Temperatures will be milder with highs in the low 70s.

Tuesday and Wednesday should stay mostly cloudy but with only a slight chance of showers Tuesday night and again Wednesday afternoon as a cold front moves through the area.

Much improved weather Thursday through the weekend as we finally get rid of the marine onshore flow, skies will be mostly sunny each day. . High temperatures will be quite mild Thursday through Saturday while Sunday should be a little cooler.

Another cloudy and cool day is expected today with a chance of some light showers or drizzle mainly this morning as a stationary front is to our south and high pressure builds from New England.

Monday looks to be dry and a little milder as the high pressure builds closer to our area.

It now appears that Tuesday and Wednesday will be mainly dry with only a slight chance of showers as the high moves offshore and a cold front approaches from the west.

High pressure will then build into the area from the west and we get rid of the cool and cloudy marine air and instead of an onshore wind we will have winds from the west. With more sunshine, temperatures will be milder Thursday through the start of next weekend.
