Winds are from the north around 5-10 mph making wind chills below zero. The 7 degree reading in Clifton is the lowest since the 1 degree on February 4th, 2023. Arctic high pressure over us this morning will slowly move offshore by tonight. Today will be mostly sunny with highs again only in the 20s but with less wind. Tonight we will see an increase in clouds and temperatures overnight should stay steady in the 20s.

A quick moving frontal system will give us a good chance of snow showers around dawn on Tuesday followed by clearing and not as cold in the afternoon. Snow accumulations should only be a dusting.

High pressure will then build into the area from the north and dominate our weather Christmas Day through Friday with near normal temperatures.

The weekend will be milder with only a low chance of rain on Sunday as a weak frontal system approaches from the west.

Arctic high pressure building from the Great Lakes will give us very cold day today but the winds will slowly diminsh this afternoon. Highs will be mainly only in the low 20s.

With clear skies and light winds temperatures early tomorrow morning will drop down to around 10 in Clifton and some below zero temperatures are likely further inland. During the day on Monday temperatures will be a couple of degrees higher than today but still be below freezing, winds will continue to be light.

A weak frontal system may give us some snow showers on Tuesday morning then skies will become mostly sunny in the afternoon with more normal temperatures.

High pressure will then dominate our weather Christmas Day through Friday giving us dry conditions and near normal temperatures.

At this point next weekend looks mainly dry and somewhat milder.

Light snow is falling across the area early this morning as winter began at 4:20 a.m. Temperatures range from 28 in Clifton down to 22 at High Point. Winds are from the north averaging 5-10 mph. The air quality is good with an index of 33. Around 1 1/2 to 2 inches of snow has accumulated in the Clifton area with somewhat more across the higher elevations.

The low pressure that gave us the snow is moving well offshore as high pressure builds into our area from the Great Lakes. The snow should end around 8 a.m. followed by a brisk northwest flow of very cold air. Highs will only rise to the low 30s and with winds gusting over 30 mph will make it feel colder.

Sunny and very cold on Sunday with highs mainly only in the 20s, wind will be less than today but still it will be rather breezy.

With light winds and clear skies Monday morning’s temperature will fall to near 10 degrees which will make it the coldest reading since December 24, 2022. During the day will be less harsh with highs a couple of degrees higher than Sunday.

A weak cold front may touch off some snow showers on Christmas Eve.

Mainly dry with temperatures rising to near normal Christmas Day through the rest of next week.

A weak fast moving disturbance will cause some light snow today mixed with rain at times. Tonight the precipitation will be mainly in the form of snow that should continue into Saturday morning. Snowfall amounts will be mainly less than an inch with some higher amounts possible further inland.

The coldest air so far this season is expected Sunday into Monday with highs both days mainly only in the upper 20s despite plenty of sunshine.

The system that gave us the rain yesterday and last night is moving offshore as weak high pressure builds from the west. Today will be partly sunny with slowly diminishing winds and near seasonable temperatures.

An offshore low pressure is expected to develop well offshore as a weak low pressure moves in from the west. We should see cloudy skies with light snow possibly mixed with rain at times Friday afternoon with mainly light snow at night. Possible accumulations would be less than an inch.

Much colder on Saturday as Arctic high pressure builds into our area, there still will be a chance of some snow showers especially further inland.

The coldest air of the season is likely Sunday and Monday with daytime highs below freezing despite plenty of sunshine both days.

Temperatures will not be as cold on Tuesday but a weak disturbance may give us some light snow at night that may continue into Christmas Day. Again this will not be a big storm with only a dusting of snow possible.
